Getting ready to go is part of the fun. Having walked the Camino in Spain, France and Portugal many times I have pretty well settled on the physical basics like rucksack, clothes, shoes and electronics. But there is always a little tweaking that can be done. I am not obsessional about the weight that I carry, but it is true that every little bit less helps. So I am pleased with my new sleeping bag generously gifted to me for this trip. It weighs 314gm as against 896gm for my previous one. Which allows me some leeway to add some stuff, like a tablet which I am bringing for the first time, to allow me to blog. And I have made contact with a friend of a friend in Lausanne who is willing to graciously look after a parcel of a guidebook and maps for the latter half of my trip and a few renewable essentials. Other than the sleeping bag I am changing very little. I have brand new Keen walking shoes, but they are identical to my previous ones. I always use poles, but they are the same as always. I am bringing the same clothes I wore on the Madrid Route in November/December last year. They were “summer clothes” and were perfectly warm enough for temps down to -5 during the day, so I am hoping they will be fine this time. ‘Layers’. That is what you need.
